Extreme strength wrought Cupro Nickel alloy CuNi14Al2 (compliant with generic alloy DIN 2.1504).
Highest strength and hardness within our marine suite of alloys, with tensile strengths over 1000MPa possible.
Background
This extremely high strength wrought cupro nickel is used in a variety of marine applications – including the oil, gas and defence
sectors – for its outstanding corrosion resistance combined with extreme strength and hardness. The CAL T-1000 is also highly
resistant to wear, has a low magnetic permeability, resists galling against stainless steel and does not suffer from marine growth
(bio-fouling) or hydrogen embrittlement.
The main strengthening mechanism involves the precipitation of an extremely fine nickel-aluminium Ni3Al phase. Our deep
metallurgical understanding of this mechanism and our advanced manufacturing techniques allows us to induce industry-leading
properties which are unavailable elsewhere.
This material is available in two strength versions; T-1000S (table 2A standard material) and T-1000E (table 2B enhanced version).
The enhanced versions, T-1000E, is only available in bars (square/flat/round/shapes) to around 100mm ø.
T-1000E is amongst the strongest copper-based alloys available anywhere.

High Strength Wrought Copper-Nickel-Manganese-Aluminium alloy CuNi15Mn4Al1Fe (Compliant with generic alloy Def Stan 02-835 Part 2).
High strength and hardness combined with high toughness and good ductility.
Background
This high strength wrought cupro nickel alloy is used in a variety of marine applications including the oil and gas industry,
but primarily the defence sector, for its outstanding corrosion resistance combined with high strength and toughness with good
ductility. The high impact strength make it particularly useful in Naval Engineering applications where resistance to Naval-Shock is
required, combined with high strength and resistance to marine corrosion.
This is also resistant to wear, has a low magnetic permeability, resists galling against stainless steel and does not suffer
from marine growth or hydrogen embrittlement. The main strengthening mechanism involves the precipitation of an extremely fine
nickel-aluminium Ni3Al phase. The aluminium content of this alloy is lower than our Extreme Strength Cupro Nickel T-1000 and therefore
less precipitate is formed, producing a material with higher toughness at the expense of strength and hardness.
Our deep metallurgical understanding of this mechanism combined with our advanced manufacturing techniques enables us to balance
the mechanical properties inducing high strength together with high toughness and good ductility.
NAB and cast CNC
Overview of benefits of CAL wrought CNC-1 and CNC-2 compared with Nickel Aluminium Bronze (NAB) and cast CNC
High Strength Wrought Copper-Nickel-Chrome Alloy CuNi30Cr1MnFeSiZrTi – composition compliant with generic alloy Def Stan 02-886,
with enhanced strength and toughness exceeding specification requirements.
In our copper nickel chrome alloy (CuNi30Cr1MnFeSiZrTi), high strength is combined with extremely high toughness and good ductility
together with outstanding seawater corrosion resistance.
Background
This outstanding material (Copper-Nickel-Chrome alloy/CNC) was developed by the British MoD to replace nickel aluminium bronze (NAB)
in seawater systems on submarines, due to corrosion issues with NAB, in particular selective phase corrosion (SPC). The depth of attack in
NAB is typically 1.1mm/year (0.043″/year), but has been observed at 1.4mm/year (0.055″/year). CNC is reported to have the ability to last the
lifetime of the platform and observed 10 years service performance showing excellent results with negligible corrosion and fit for a second commission.
CNC does not contain continuous/semi-continuous anodic phases and as such, is immune to SPC and has a very low general corrosion rate.
The resulting specification – Def Stan 02-824 part 1 – is for castings and due to extreme difficulties in producing sound castings – in particular avoiding
metal oxide films which form during melting and casting – its cost is generally high and its usage limited. For these reasons, it has not generally
replaced NAB in seawater systems in submarines.
During the development of the cast version of the alloy, a number of companies were sponsored to develop a wrought (forged) version, but this
was abandoned due to reported lack of forgeability.
Our advanced melting, alloying and casting techniques, combined with a deep metallurgical understanding of hot working materials, have allowed
us to develop two forged versions of the alloy, which is very exciting. There is a ‘standard’ version (CNC-1) and a higher strength version (CNC-2)
applicable to bars to around 150mm (6″) in section.
If you are using NAB in critical seawater systems where resistance to corrosion and high shock resistance is required, you need to change to this material
The resulting specification – Def Stan 02-824 part 1 – is for castings and due to extreme difficulties in producing sound castings – in particular
avoiding metal oxide films which form during melting and casting – its cost is generally high and its usage limited. For these reasons, it has
not generally replaced NAB in seawater systems in submarines.
During the development of the cast version of the alloy, a number of companies were sponsored to develop a wrought (forged) version,
but this was abandoned due to reported lack of forgeability.
Our advanced melting, alloying and casting techniques, combined with a deep metallurgical understanding of hot working materials, have
allowed us to develop two forged versions of the alloy, which is very exciting. There is a ‘standard’ version (CNC-1) and a higher strength
version (CNC-2) applicable to bars to around 150mm (6″) in section.
If you are using NAB in critical seawater systems where resistance to corrosion and high shock resistance is required, you need to change to this material
